Eau Rose Solid Perfume by Diptyque

This was a blind buy last summer when my desperation for a replacement scent to my favourite perfume of thirteen years reached its peak. I loved the idea of a solid perfume, which I had first been acquainted with several years ago with a limited edition of the previously mentioned favourite perfume, and the beautiful packaging temped me beyond the burn of its price point.

The compact is very heavy and beautiful, with a colourful carved rose on the lid while the rest of it is glossy black. There is a small magnet that makes the lid snap closed. My only problem is that i am a bit clumsy and the little grove on the front that separates the lid from the bottom part isn't enough for my awkward fingers to find it and open it effortlessly; I have to fumble a bit.

This particular compact is refillable, ans it comes with a little metal pin that you can insert into the hole on the back to push out the empty perfume pan and replace it with a new one. The refills are quite cheap compared to the non refillable compacts and they are sold two in one package.

The solid perfume is a waxy substance that melts as you rub your finger in it in a creamy consistency, which you then apply and spread on the inside of your elbows, behind your ears.... You need to pick a small quantity and spread it well because, as it is quite thick, it can create a thick mess and flake off as your elbows rub together, or your neckline rubs on it etc.

Eau rose is a beautiful lightweight smell. Pretty, pink rose, blooming in a garden, mixes with the sweetness of lychee. It is a very overdone combination, but it's a pleasant scent and it is done very well in this one. The rose itself is very lifelike, and it reminds me of my grandfather's garden, right after watering the plants: three fresh, delicate roses, with water droplets falling off their petals, and the fresh scent of their wet green leaves....  A very non offensive, delicate, and pleasant scent.
The scent is very similar to Roses de Chloé, but it is more long lasting than that one, which is a very weak skinscent with almost zero projection that disappears from the skin within an hour. It is a lighter less sweet, and "younger" version of Maison Francis Kurkdjian L'eau à la rose, and a leads green, more sweet, more floral version of the Body Shop's British Rose.

It doesn't really project, and its intensity is rather medium. It doesn't last too long on the skin either, around 4-5 hours, but it's so small that it's easy to carry around in your pocket and reapply as needed. I want to try out the spray version at some point and compare notes, but so far I can say that the spray versions of other Diptyque perfumes I know are stronger, intense, sith high projection, even though they don't last any longer.

All in all it's a very cute, albeit simple perfume. I am not sure if the average person would spend that much money on it, unless you really love roses....
